The IU Student Association Congress met Tuesday, its fifth assembly this semester, with 36 of 45 members in attendance.
Resolutions
Three resolutions focused on printing on campus. The first called on University Information Technology Services to have double-sided printing cost only one printing quota credit, instead of the current two.
It passed with 97 percent of congress members in support.
The second printing resolution called for extra printing pages to rollover to future semesters automatically. Currently, the process is manual. It passed with 94 percent
approval.
The last printing resolution again called on UITS, this time to set double-sided printing as the default option on campus computers. The resolution noted that many students don’t know about or don’t take the time to switch to double-sided printing.
It passed with 73 percent of congress members in favor.
The final resolution of the evening dealt with the Bloomington Faculty Council’s recent announcement of its intentions to shift class offerings to include more Friday classes.
The resolution was generally against the idea of mandatory Friday classes, citing that some majors required in-field work on Fridays and some students used Fridays to travel home.
After discussion revealed a misunderstanding of the BFC’s intent, however, the resolution was tabled for the next Congress meeting to allow for changes to be made to the resolution.
Bylaw introduction
The long-awaited bylaw revisions, which began this summer, were presented to Congress for its examination.
Members have until the tentatively scheduled Dec. 6 full Congress meeting to read the revised IUSA bylaws before any voting to adopt the new document begins.
