Ind. Secretary of State Charlie White, who is being investigated for voter fraud, hand-delivered a criminal complaint of voter fraud against former Senator Evan Bayh, D-Ind., and his wife, Susan.
White called into question the former senator’s vote in the 2011 primary election in Indiana. Bayh owns a home in Indianapolis but also spends time in a house in Washington, D.C.
White said in the complaint the Bayhs live primarily outside of Indiana and should not have been eligible to vote in the 2011 Indianapolis municipal
primary.
White, a Republican, said Indiana Democrats have targeted a selective few with voter fraud charges.
“I take no joy in filing this complaint,” White said in a press release. “But the Democrats have opened themselves up for this and many future filings against others who show their blatant disregard for voting and homestead deduction laws.”
White, who is the state’s administrator of elections, is facing criminal charges after it was discovered he had voted in the 2010 elections in a district where he formerly lived with his ex-wife. He was living in a condominium with his then-girlfriend, who is now his wife, in a different district.
White was indicted in March for using his former wife’s address to vote in 2010 while he was purchasing a house outside of the Fishers Town Council district he represented at the time. He continued to take his salary after he moved out of the district he represented.
The Indiana Democratic Party called for his 2010 election as Secretary of State to be invalidated, but the Indiana Recount Commission voted to keep his position.
White said he filed the complaint to mark what he sees as a discrepancy between the way he and others are being treated.
“After the vicious attacks by the Democrats and those in local media that refuse to report the whole story, I have to defend myself,” he said.
