IU will not be host of presidential debate

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Monday that IU will not be the host of a 2012 debate.

The initiative to apply for the debate was led by IU Student Association, Union Board and other campus offices and student organizations.

This year, IU was one of 12 universities across the country to apply. The University also applied and was turned down in 2008.

The debate sites chosen were the University of Denver, Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., and Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. Centre College in Danville, Ky., will be the host school for the vice presidential debate. Washington University in St. Louis is the backup site.
