Hoosiers end regular season with trip to Ann Arbor

After an up-and-down season, the Hoosiers have reached the end. Of the regular season, at least.

The IU field hockey team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a matchup with the Wolverines at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Indiana has struggled on the road this season, going 3-5 in eight matches.

IU Coach Amy Robertson geared the team up for not only this away game, but the games they will have to play for the conference tournament in State College, Pa., shortly after its Michigan matchup.

“The big thing on the road is capitalizing on opportunities (and) taking advantage of our mistakes,” Robertson said. “We learned some things with our preparation. We focused on having more energy by what we can control.”

After a 4-0 start to the season, IU has gone 2-4 in its most recent matches.

“We can’t raise our expectations at this point. We need to do what we do well, and we have to make sure that we come in here focused on scoring goals,” Robertson said. “(We’re) probably not going to stop all the goals, so we’re going to have to score more than the opponent.”

Robertson looks to rebound and give the team a much needed win going into the Big Ten tournament. IU sits in fifth place in the standings. The team will likely have to make it to the championship game to make the NCAA tournament.

“We already know we’re going to be the fifth seed no matter what,” Robertson said. “It’s great because we’re going to see a team that we have lost to, and sometimes you learn after losing what could’ve been better and what you need to do differently. As soon as we lost a couple of those games, it was like, ‘I want to play them again,’ so I think we’ll get our wish.”
