In light of the legislation hitting the table in the United Nations, Israel has a lot to worry about.
Palestinian leadership is attempting to create an independent state, created for the purpose of a homeland parallel to that of the Jewish state.
Although the idea is theoretically peaceful and beneficial, reading between the lines shows a much more grim and
threatening reality.
The proposed state of Palestine is working in conjunction with Hamas, a terrorist organization that not only has control of the Gaza Strip but is also responsible for plaguing Israeli people. The most widely known example of this is the capture and suspected torture of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier who has been held ransom for over five years.
The idea that the creation of this state of Palestine would occur with the aid of an organization dedicated to hate and destruction is detrimental not only to Israel but to the world as a whole.
It is for that reason that the United States has made very clear their intention to veto the proposition and stand in solidarity for their Israeli friends.
The continued effort for peace is vital to both Israeli and Palestinian leaders.
Unfortunately, this plan needs to circumvent all aspects of military force and terrorism.
When any form of hatred is present in the negotiations, peace is not becoming a reality.
When the Palestinians become serious about forming a peace agreement, which might or might not include an independent state, the elimination of Hamas is necessary.
By no means should the acts of a small minority of hateful citizens destroy the reputation of an entire population. In this case, though, the power would not be handed to the people who are seeking peace.
