Three teenagers sustained multiple injuries in a car accident in western Monroe County Tuesday morning, according to the Monroe County Sheriff Office.
Two 16-year-old males and one 14-year-old female were driving rapidly westbound on State Road 48 near the Greene County line.
They attempted to make it to the road near the intersection of State Road 48 and 43, but were unable to do so because of their high speed. None of the teenagers were wearing seat belts and all were thrown from the vehicle after it made three flips and landed on its wheels.
The driver, one of the males, is pending charges of operating while intoxicated and the other male passenger was cited with public intoxication and illegal consumption.
The driver sustained injuries to his head, a broken leg and a broken wrist. The other male had a broken leg and a punctured lung. The female sustained numerous cuts and bruises. All three were treated at Bloomington Hospital.
