Statehouse passes broad school voucher program

Today the Indiana General Assembly passed one of the nation’s broadest school voucher programs. In a vote of 55-43, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow middle- and low-income families to use taxpayer money to send their students to private schools, including religious schools.

The voucher program is part of a larger education reform plan lead by Gov. Mitch Daniels that includes merit pay for teachers, expanded charter schools and limitations on educator collective bargaining rights.
