As newspapers adjust to today’s economy, they must find ways to conserve resources. One way the Indiana Daily Student will be cutting back is by using less newsprint.
The width of the paper has shrunk by an inch. This is comparable to one column in the former size. Although we will physically have less space, the editorial staff sees this as an opportunity to not only rethink the way our paper looks but also the way we present content. In the coming weeks, you can expect to see more short story forms in an effort to present news more efficiently.
Design-wise, this means running larger visuals, writing compelling headlines and taking more risks with our use of color, typography and page organization.
Today’s paper is the first edition in our new style. We would love to know what you think. Email editor@idsnews.com with any questions, comments or critiques.
