Union Board is the largest student programming organization on campus and plans most large events, including concerts and lectures.
Union Board events are funded by a student activity fee that all IU students pay as part of their tuition.
Union Board also collaborates with smaller student organizations that don’t have as much money to sponsor events.
Every IU student is a member of Union Board, even if they are not active, because they pay the student activity fee that forms the budget for Union Board programming.
All the ideas for events come from students because the programs are designed to appeal to everyone.
Any student can join Union Board at any time of the year. The process to become an active member is not lengthy.
Union Board has 13 separate committees with 13 directors. Eleven of these committees are for active programming, such as lectures and concerts. The other two are public relations and design or support committees.
Union Board has three executive positions: vice president for programming, vice president for membership and president.
Union Board is not profit-oriented; rather, it provides a service to the students by providing programming that is interesting and educational.
This is the 102nd board and the mission has been the same since its start in 1909: to provide meaningful programming to bring together the students of IU.
The next Union Board-sponsored event is Sarah Silverman’s appearance 7 p.m. today at the IU Auditorium.
