myBloomington earns award for online city information availability

Easy Web access to information about city services has earned Bloomington an award from the Indiana Geographic Information Council.

Today, Mayor Mark Kruzan announced that Bloomington’s Geographic Information Service, myBloomington, received the 2011 Excellence in GIS Award in the Large Community category, outshining several other competitors.

myBloomington allows users to find information about city services like trash pickup days, road closings, parks and historical landmarks in the area surrounding a given street address. The location-based service was developed jointly by the City’s Information and Technology Services department’s GIS and Systems group staff.
