IUVision victorious in RHA election

The IUVision ticket won the Residence Halls Association executive election Tuesday, earning about twice as many votes as the LOL ;) ticket.

IUVision’s President-elect Marianna Eble received 709 votes, while opposing candidate Jessie Mroz of LOL ;) received 322 votes.

After the results are in, the opposing ticket has 48 hours to contest.

“The ticket who lost can point out a wrongful procedure of the election,” Elections Commissioner Christos Panagoulias said. “For instance, if one of the tickets had election material within 50 feet of the polling place, there could be a contest.”

There was a higher voter turnout than previously, Panagoulias said.

He credits increased election participation to more advertising and residents’ desires to be more involved.

Eble said her ticket’s dedication to RHA was the determining factor of IUVision’s
success.

“The reason IUVision won was based on our experience and our passion for RHA,” Eble said. “We worked so hard on our platforms. We did all the hard work and research beforehand.”

IUVision’s platform dealt with changes to the first-year experience, amenities, outreach and health and wellness.

“We really want to take a page from IUSA,” Eble said. “We want to prove that RHA can do things they say they will, especially with our platforms.”

Next year, Eble said she hopes to increase RHA’s presence by creating inclusive programming that will appeal to a wide range of residents.

Eble had a comment for the opposing ticket.

“We are more than happy to consider them for other executive positions,” Eble said. “We don’t want to lose our student leaders.”
