Indiana Democrats will soon return to the Statehouse, but not for work.
Members of the boycotting House Democrats — who have been holed up in Urbana, Ill., since Feb. 22 — may soon travel back to the Indiana Statehouse to participate in a labor union rally Thursday, said the leader of the boycott.
Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma said the Big Ten basketball tournament is currently causing lodging problems for some out-of-town lawmakers. Because of this, the House won’t be in session Thursday or Friday.
Bosma said the rally had nothing to do with the decision to cancel sessions those two days, but Democratic House Minority Leader Patrick Bauer said he doesn’t think the Republican members will want to be around during the labor union demonstration outside the Statehouse on Thursday.
Bauer will not be present for the rally Thursday, but said he will be there in spirit.
