7,000 rally at Statehouse

Union leaders planned another rally at the Indianapolis Statehouse on Thursday, hoping to have a staggering number of protestors to draw legislators’ attention. They were not disappointed.

At 1 p.m., the last and final update from First Sergeant and Indiana State Police Public Information officer David Bursten estimated a crowd of 7,000 at the Statehouse.
Protestors had gathered to voice their opposition to the proposal of ending collective bargaining rights.

The crowd is expected to dissipate around 2 p.m., Bursten said.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell said in an earlier press release, “The crowd has been orderly, and Union members and officials have been very cooperative with law enforcement.”
