Lisbeth Salander is running the race for her life in the third and final film of the Millenium trilogy, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,” based on the book by Stieg Larrson.
The film opens with Lisbeth in the hospital as doctors race to get a bullet out of her head after she is shot by her father in flashback scenes from the second film.
Sweedish actress Noomi Rapace reprises her role as Lisbeth, and Rapace brings the strength and vulnerability of Salander to life.
The film’s underlying themes of sexism in the form of psychiatrists, a secret organization and the police is both a captivating and inviting aspect of this sequel. Lisbeth however is strong and smart in her fight.
Although action-packed, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest” is a breath of fresh air from the typical explosion-happy action films. It is engaging and intelligent and keeps the audience guessing to the very end.
