Kinsey photography exhibition “As We See Them” opens Friday

The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction will showcase a more traditional form of photography in its new exhibit opening 5 p.m. Friday called “As We See Them.”

The exhibit will showcase the works of 11 artists who are setting aside digital photography to explore the processes and possibilities of 19th century photography.

The images deal with sexuality and the human figure.

Works that will be shown include cyanotypes — photographs that are developed to appear blue — along with many other alternative photography methods.

Featured artist and guest curator Herbert Ascherman Jr.  will speak at 4 p.m. prior to the opening reception in Morrison Hall 007.

He will discuss how the methods used to create the photographs add to their meaning in his lecture, entitled, “Modern Vision, Classic Methods.”

The exhibit will be on display Friday through April 1. The gallery is open 1:30 to 5 p.m. weekdays or by appointment.

Visitors must be at least 18 years old or be accompanied by an adult to view the exhibit.
