Miss Indiana, junior Gabrielle Reed, will bid farewell to her home state Saturday as she prepares to compete in the upcoming Miss America pageant. Her public send-off party will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Federal Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.
Reed will be presented with the “Call to Service Award,” which is the highest honor of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards. She is the recipient for having more than 4,000 hours of volunteering at the local Middle Way House and at other domestic violence prevention organizations.
Reed is in the Jacobs School of Music pursuing a degree in vocal performance.
During the send off, she will also give a sneak peek of her pageant wardrobe and present a vocal performance. The event, which is being organized by Reed’s local pageant, the Miss Southern Heartland Organization, is free; however, donations will be accepted to assist Reed with the pageant’s expenses.
Reed will be heading to Las Vegas to compete in the national pageant, which will air live on ABC network Jan. 15 from the Planet Hollywood Resort.
