For many families, the conclusion of the Thanksgiving meal means starting the holiday shopping, adorning every outdoor tree with lights and finding the right Christmas tree for the living room.
But for Zionsville’s Traderspoint Creamery it means stocking their seasonal eggnog — and increasing business.
“It’s exciting when it first comes out because people want the last bottles before they’re gone,” said Gail Alden, director of marketing, media and events of Traderspoint Creamery. “It’s kind of like seasonal food because you wish you could have fresh corn and potatoes all year, but you look forward to the taste of having it around the holidays.”
For all the non-eggnog drinkers, it is a dairy product that includes milk, cream, sugar and egg yolk, mixed with various flavors.
Traderspoint Creamery’s revenue increases by 12 percent because of its eggnog sales, but increasing business is not the only intention.
“The whole intent is to make a healthy, beautiful product that customers will like,” Alden said. “It’s by far the first choice if you want to choose nutrients wise.”
Traderspoint Creamery’s exclusive eggnog is different from other store brands because of its ingredients.
“Ours really stands out among the rest,” Alden said. “We use high quality organic ingredients such as fresh eggs and real cream.”
This is Traderspoint Creamery’s fourth year selling its seasonal eggnog, all because of owner Peter Kunz’s love of it.
“We just hate store brand eggnog because the taste is so unofficial,” Kunz said. “I think the realization that I came to is that the special taste makes me feel like I made it at home.”
Studies from the Armenian Medical Network show cows that are on a 100 percent grass-fed diet, such as at Traderspoint, produce milk with five times the conjugated linoleic acid, an unsaturated fat that preserves the heart and lowers the risk of heart attack.
“Traderspoint Creamery’s eggnog is actually healthy for you,” said Bradley Williams, IU junior and former Traderspoint employee. “You don’t have to feel guilty about drinking it.”
Traderspoint Creamery has 75 retailers selling its eggnog throughout central Indiana and has even branched out to Chicago. In Bloomington, the eggnog is at Sahara Mart, Bloomingfoods and O’Malias.
The eggnog is only in stores until the first week of January, but that isn’t the only thing Traderspoint Creamery is selling.
“In the winter we will start gearing up for the heavy cheese production that will come in the spring,” Alden said. “It’s a very exciting cycle of product ending and beginning.”
The creamery sells a smorgasbord of milk, cheese, ice cream and its infamous yogurt that is sold across the United States.
“It’s something you have to have because it reminds you of the holidays,” Williams said. “I just finished a bottle, and it was phenomenal.”
