Coal Free IU was recently awarded $12,000 in grant money from the IU Student Foundation’s Senior Challenge Grant.
The money will be used to install a solar panel on the roof of the IU Office of Admissions, located on North Jordan Avenue.
“Installing the solar array in a public and highly visible place means that clean energy solutions are now out in front for everyone to see and the administration can no longer ignore the critical need for unique energy solutions,” Coal Free IU member Lauren Kastner said in a press release.
Coal Free IU is a campaign launched in 2009 to petition for clean energy on campus. It is part of a national campaign sponsored by the Sierra Student Coalition and Sierra Club. Organizations similar to Coal Free IU are located on more than 30 university campuses in the US.
