A search committee has now selected five finalists in an effort to find the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The results will be announced before spring break and the new dean will take office on July 1, 2011, the start date of the University’s next fiscal year, Russ Hanson said.
Greenwood and Asher, a firm specializing in recruiting academic administrators, assisted the committee, who considered more than 100 applications and nominations, Russ Hanson said.
The five candidates have been
invited to visit campus and meet students, faculty and administrators in the
Whittenberger Auditorium of the Indiana Memorial Union. Becker will meet today
at 4 p.m. and Herbers will meet 4 p.m. Thursday.
Singell will meet 4 p.m. Dec. 6 and Simpson at 4 p.m. Dec. 8. The forum
for Pilachowski will be at 2 p.m. on Dec. 10.
Becker, said he is deeply touched to be one of the
candidates.
“I am a long standing member of the faculty, and I am honored to be considered a finalist for the dean position,” he said. “The committee worked very hard, and hopefully they will get someone out of the pool.”
Pilachowski also said she is excited to be considered.
“It is an honor. I am thrilled to be considered,” she said.
The high level of interest in the position shows that many people view the school highly, Hanson said.
“Many people appreciate the great strengths of our College of Arts and Sciences and see the deanship as an attractive professional opportunity,” he said.
