While Secretary of State Dean Rusk spoke at the IU Auditorium, about 200 protesters in the audience harassed him with boos and shouts.
“I am prepared to be your guest — I am not going to engage in a shouting contest with anyone,” Rusk told the crowd, according to an IDS article.
The following day a petition was past around campus asking students to sign an apology to Rusk. In total, 13,800 persons signed the petition.
