Increase in local property tax to fund Monroe County Schools

Referendum

Moments ago, the much anticipated Monroe County Community School Corporation Referendum passed a public vote granting increased funding to local public schools in order to provide relief to teacher layoffs and extracurricular activity cancellations.

The referendum will increase property taxes by approximately 0.14 percent for six years to counteract MCCSC’s 5 million dollar budget cut which occurred this year.

Increased class sizes and the closing of Aurora High School were the two dominant reasons of support.
