About 19,000 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $47.5 million have been eradicated by Operation Hoosier Thunder in their commitment to crack down on illegal marijuana growers in Southern Indiana.
The process started last month when the Indiana State Police, Indiana National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, DEA, U.S. Forest Service, Civil Air Patrol, Indiana DNR and local law enforcement agencies all joined to help the fight, according to a press release issued by the Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Chad D. Dick.
According to a press release issued by the Indiana State
Police Public Information Officer, Sergeant Chad D. Dick, “This effort was in
response to ongoing intelligence of illegal drug trafficking operations illegally
growing marijuana on public property like the Hoosier National Forrest and
other remote state and federally owned property.”
Operation Hoosier Thunder utilized Blackhawk helicopters along with ground teams in the search efforts. Despite concentration in the Southern portions of the state, marijuana eradication efforts have been continuing state-wide.
