The IU Student Media Board selected junior Carrie Schedler as summer 2010 editor-in-chief of the Indiana Daily Student and junior Sarah Brubeck as the fall 2010 editor-in-chief.
The board also selected sophomore Christine Ashack as 2010-11 editor of the Arbutus yearbook. All candidates are majoring in journalism.
Brubeck has been a campus editor and managing editor at the IDS, where she has worked for three years.
Schedler has worked at the IDS for two years, serving as the arts editor last summer and the features editor last fall.
Ashack is currently the managing editor of Arbutus and served as the issues editor for the 2009 edition.
The board met at 9 a.m. Friday and questioned the candidates. The board consisted of four students from IU student media, an IU Student Association representative, Director of IU Student Media Ron Johnson and four professional representatives.
Schedler said she is excited to assume the role as summer editor.
“It feels pretty fantastic. This has been a pretty long process, and I’m happy it has come to a successful end,” she said.
Brubeck has already started planning for the fall.
“I want to instill enthusiasm throughout all levels of the newsroom, especially young writers,” she said. “Our editors will be focusing on ways to bring our readers into our paper by getting outside our newsroom walls and finding out what readers are interested in.”
