Coroner: Purdue student’s death ruled accidental

A coroner says a Purdue University freshman whose body was found along with his car in a retention pond in suburban Indianapolis accidentally drowned and was drunk.

Hamilton County Coroner Thurl Cecil said in a statement that 19-year-old Patrick Trainor’s blood-alcohol content was 0.19 percent, double Indiana’s legal limit.

Trainor was the subject of a four-day search last month after he was reported missing. Police divers at the pond located the car with the Indianapolis man’s body inside March 24. Matt Trainor, Patrick’s brother, said the family wouldn’t comment on the report.

Carmel police: 2 teens die in car fleeing officer

Carmel police say two teenagers died after the car they were riding in hit a utility pole, flipped and caught fire when the driver sped away from an officer trying to stop him for speeding. Police said in a statement the officer tried to stop the car about 10:50 p.m. Friday, but the driver sped away. The officer was pursuing the car when the crash occurred.

Police say the driver got out of the car after the crash and yelled that his friends were inside. He was hospitalized. Police said the three were believed to be 15-year-old boys from the Carmel area. Police planned to discuss possible charges with prosecutors.
