Purdue takes 1st for solar car category at competition

Purdue University won first place in the solar car category this weekend at the Shell Eco-marathon Americas competition.

The event included Indiana college and high school teams that “showcased their abilities to race fuel-efficient vehicles,” according to a press release from Inside INdiana Business.
Purdue’s performance would have equaled 4,548 miles per gallon.

Shell sponsors the event to encourage engineering students to search for new ways to approach sustainable mobility and to keep young people interested in technology, energy and transportation and give them an opportunity to showcase their work, according to the release.

This year’s competition took place at Houston’s Discovery Green Park in Texas.
