Hey, it’s the ’80s!

Four guys use a hot tub to travel back in time to 1986. Sounds hilarious, right? Unfortunately, “Hot Tub Time Machine” fails to give the audience its money’s worth in mirth.

The movie is the story of four friends who go to their favorite weekend resort to relive some of their favorite childhood memories. They climb into their hotel room hot tub after a night of drinking and debauchery and find themselves stuck in the ’80s.

“Hot Tub” certainly has its moments. Stars John Cusack, Clark Duke, Craig Robinson and Rob Corddry are all comedy veterans and manage to elicit chuckles more often than not. Crispin Glover provides a surprisingly funny performance as the bitter one-armed bellhop.

The film is stuffed with ’80s references, including Cusack rocking an almost identical wardrobe to his now-famous “Say Anything” character. Unfortunately, “Hey, it’s the ’80s” jokes can only take you so far.

Make no mistake; the movie is a fun comedy with the heart expected of a Cusack movie, but it doesn’t compare to similar films by Judd Apatow and company.
