Murat name change
Event promoter Live Nation recently announced the change of the name of the Murat Centre in Indianapolis to Old National Centre after Old National Bank, but Inside INdiana Business reports that the Murat Temple Association, which owns the building, is contesting the name change. The Association leases the building to Live Nation and said the name was changed without its consent.
Aid coming to schools
The U.S. Dept. of Education announced Friday that $61 million in stimulus money is coming to help out Indiana’s schools. The money will first go to 64 schools identified as the lowest achievers, then other schools can apply. But the money comes with a price — the school must be willing to replace the principal, lay off teachers or convert it to a charter school.
Foreclosure fear
The number of Indiana mortgages that were 90 days or more overdue jumped to its highest level in more than a year in January, a statistic that has many fearing a surge of home foreclosures in 2010. According to RealtyTrac Inc., a California-based foreclosure listing service. Indiana ranked 17th in the nation for foreclosures in late 2009.
Raw milk illness
Indiana and federal health agencies are alerting consumers to a disease outbreak associated with drinking raw milk from Forest Grove Dairy in Middlebury, Ind. At least 12 confirmed illnesses traced to campylobacteriosis are reported in Michigan and three in Indiana. The bacteria can cause diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain, and fever.
State health officials ask Indiana residents who might have milk from the dairy to submit it for free testing by calling (317) 233-7360.
