Super Bowl two-hour delay for Indy Schools

Students in Indianapolis Public Schools are allowed to sleep in a bit Monday thanks to a two-hour delay scheduled to give bus drivers more time to get to work the morning after the Super Bowl.

But they’ll have to make up for half the lost time. The state’s largest school district initially scheduled a two-hour delay but changed course after the Indiana Department of Education said such delays should only be used for emergency situations.


Ind. governor doing business on Super Bowl trip

Gov. Mitch Daniels is headed to Miami for the Super Bowl, but it won’t be all football for the Indianapolis Colts fan.

The governor’s office says Daniels will arrive in the Miami area on Friday afternoon. His schedule includes some economic development meetings and a meeting with members of the Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee. Indianapolis will host the Super Bowl in 2012.

Daniels will host about 300 people at an Indiana Economic Development Corp. event Saturday at a venue in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami.

His schedule for pre-game or post-game activities on Sunday isn’t set yet.

Daniels is due to return to Indianapolis on Monday.


Governor Daniels wants savings bills

New revenue figures show Indiana tax collections fell $75 million short of expectations in January. Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels says the figures underscore the need for the General Assembly to pass several bills that he says would save the state about $70 million.


Evansville’s Superfund cleans up contaminated soil

The government has yet to get permission from more than 50 property owners for a project to remove contaminated soils from an Evansville neighborhood starting next month.

The $5 million cleanup in the city’s Jacobsville neighborhood is expected to begin in March and take four to five years. A contractor will remove lead- and arsenic-contaminated soil in the yards of about 350 homes and replace it with clean soil. The tainted soil will be disposed of at a regulated landfill.
