NASHVILLE, Ind. – A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for helping his older brother in an attack that killed an 84-year-old man and badly hurt his wife at their rural central Indiana home.
A Brown County judge ordered the sentence Monday for Blade Reed, who pleaded guilty to an adult felony charge of attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Reed could be released from prison in about 14 years with good conduct credit and having spent nine months in jail since his arrest for the November 2008 attack.
Reed apologized to Mary Voland after she testified that she no longer feels safe since her husband, Richard, was killed during the robbery near Helmsburg.
Bennie Reed, 17, was sentenced to 60 years in prison on murder charges.
