IU downs No. 25 Penn State 2-1

On a day full of pomp and circumstance, the IU men’s soccer team was able to resuscitate its season with a 2-1 upset of Big Ten-leading No. 25 Penn State Friday.

After falling behind 1-0 midway through the first half, senior forward Lee Hagedorn was able to punch in the game-tying goal off an Andy Adlard corner kick.

Junior midfielder Daniel Kelly beat Penn State keeper Warren Gross 40 seconds into the second half to put the Hoosiers up for good.

IU improves its record to 9-8-1 on a day that seniors Hagedorn, Eric Alexander, Nemanja Kostic and Ofori Sarkodie were honored, as well as former coach Jerry Yeagley who is a member of the most recent class in the IU Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Hoosiers spoiled a Penn State Big Ten regular season championship as well as dug themselves out of the conference cellar with Friday’s win.

The Big Ten Tournament kicks off Thursday at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Seedings for the tournament will be decided after this week’s conference play.
