No trick-or-treat for Marion County sex offenders

INDIANAPOLIS — Marion County authorities will try to keep trick-or-treaters from encountering sex offenders again this Halloween night.

Operation Halloween requires all of Marion County's convicted and registered sex offenders with no-contact orders with children to attend a mandatory meeting on Halloween this Saturday from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department recommends that trick-or-treating hours be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This is the sixth year the requirement will be in place.

Nearly 300 probationers and parolees attended the meeting last year, while four failed to report. Seven offenders were arrested at last year's meeting for technical violations, including one who came to the meeting with children in his vehicle.
