Library dean candidates visit today

Candidates for dean of the University Libraries will visit Bloomington and IU-Purdue University Indianapolis starting today.

The candidates will meet with IU librarians, faculty, staff and students.

Brenda Johnson, dean of university libraries at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will be on Bloomington’s campus today. She will take part in an open meeting from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in the lobby of the Musical Arts Center.

She will meet with librarians and library staff from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in E174 of the Herman B Wells Library.

On Tuesday she will be at IU Purdue University-Indianapolis for an open meeting at 2 p.m. in University Library 1126.

Diane Parr Walker, deputy university librarian at the University of Virginia, will be a be at the Bloomington campus Thursday. An open meeting is scheduled from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in the lobby of the Musical Arts Center. She will meet with librarians and library staff from 4 to 5:15 p.m. in E174 of the Wells Library. She will be at IUPUI for an open forum at 2 p.m. Friday at the University Library Auditorium.

The former dean, Patricia Steele, accepted a position as dean of university libraries at the University of Maryland. Carolyn Walters, the executive associate dean of the libraries at IU Bloomington, was named interim dean of university libraries in August.
