Student season ticket sales pass 6,000

IU Athletics Director Fred Glass announced Tuesday that the department has sold more than 6,000 student section season ticket passes, which hasn’t happened since 2006.

“We are thrilled that over 6,000 students bought season football tickets this year,” Glass said. “One of our primary goals was to enhance the game-day atmosphere for the
students to encourage them to come to our games, but their commitment and support for our football program has exceeded our most optimistic expectations.”

Student attendance, measured by season ticket holders and game-day purchases with an IU ID, has averaged about 8,200 after the first two home games.

He also offered clarification on the “$5 Friend Program,” which allows friends from other schools who visit IU to get into the stadium for $5 with their student IDs. The program will not include game-day rival schools so as to not encourage opponent attendance to the games.

“We want to be hospitable,” Glass said, “but we don’t want to be patsies. Our opponents are welcome, but we won’t be subsidizing their ticket costs.”
