IU Athletics Director Fred Glass announced today that the department has made more than 6,000 student section ticket sales, which hasn’t happened since 2006.
“We are thrilled that over 6,000 students bought season football tickets this year,” Glass said. “One of our primary goals was to enhance the game day atmosphere for the students to encourage them to come to our games, but their commitment and support for our football program has exceeded our most optimistic expectations”.
Student attendance, measured by season ticket holders and game-day purchases with an IU ID, have hit about 8,200 through the first two home games.
He also offered clarification on the “$5 Friend Program,” which allows friends from other schools who visit IU to get into the stadium for $5 with their student IDs. The program will not include rival schools, so as to not encourage opponent attendance to the games.
“We want to be hospitable,” Glass said, “but we don’t want to be patsies. Our opponents are welcome, but we won’t be subsidizing their ticket costs.”
