Mr. Hill’s column on the disputed elections in Iran shows a typical misunderstanding of Middle Eastern politics. He concisely, and correctly, conveys all of the important facts and then cannot interpret them.
The civil unrest surrounding these elections is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Mr. Obama to unseat the core of corruption in the region.
If the U.S. stands passively by, the Iranian dissidents will be crushed in the same manner that the Chinese destroyed the protests in Tiananmen Square.
The Ayatollah does not possess a cool head and neither should our president. Standing up as one in support of those protesters will embolden them and stir the spirit of democracy in all the weary secular souls of the Middle East.
If Obama shows support for those protesters we might get the opportunity to see radical Islam unwind like Soviet Communism.
I hope he’s dead wrong. Cooler heads need to fail – miserably.
