What you need to know before you apply the face paint.
Football
Historically, we don’t have a great football program, but the atmosphere of the games is great. Thousands of fans cover the fields next to 17th Street for tailgating on game day and wait for the team to come down Woodlawn Avenue on foot for pregame ritual, “The Walk.”
Even if attending football games isn’t your thing, make sure you don’t miss the Old Oaken Bucket game, a matchup against Purdue (our biggest athletic rival) for the trophy of, yes, a bucket. If you couldn’t dream of missing a football game, season tickets are available for $40, but you won’t need them if you only wish to attend a few games, as they rarely sell out. However, it would be a good idea to purchase your ticket for big games such as the Oaken Bucket game or Homecoming in advance, to avoid long lines and a small chance of a sell-out.
Men’s Soccer
IU men’s soccer is one of the top teams in the country, and students can attend home games (held in the Bill Armstrong Stadium) for free with student ID. The team has won seven NCAA championships – don’t miss a great time.
Men’s Basketball
Rule of thumb: Normally, if you plan on attending men’s basketball games, you’ll need season tickets. Basketball seats are hot realty at IU, and if you’re a fan (or if you’d like to be) you’ll need to purchase a student season ticket package. However, because of the team’s recent losing record, single-game tickets were sold last season. If you’d like to wait and purchase tickets, game-to-game, it might be a gamble.
Men’s basketball season ticket packages will be available in early fall, sold by the IU Athletics Department. New for this year is a football/basketball season ticket package for $280, including all six home football games and 16 home basketball games. You can add it to your Bursar bill during class registration, or order by calling 1-886-IUSPORTS.
Women’s Basketball
Love basketball, but hate high ticket prices? Come see the women’s basketball team play inside Assembly Hall for free with your student ID.
Baseball
Although the baseball complex isn’t necessarily impressive, the team is. The newly-crowned Big Ten champions play all home games at Sembower Field, located on North Fee Lane next to Foster. Plus, all regular season games are free, and you can bring your own snacks.
