EVANSVILLE – Environmental crews have analyzed the contents of 479 containers found at the site of a former electroplating company in Evansville, where a $1 million cleanup is under way.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency coordinator Kevin Turner said while those containers at the former Miller Electroplating factory held cyanides, chromic and sulfuric acids and other substances, nothing unexpected was found.
The Evansville Courier & Press reported that the EPA began working in January to remove waste from the plating factory, which closed in December 2007. The project is expected to take until July to complete.
The factory’s property is surrounded by homes on three sides, and soil testing will be done later to determine the extent of contamination.
