Barack Obama promised change. Sounds great on paper, but how is he going to back that up?
The stimulus bill has already passed, and nothing can be done to stop that. But there are a few problems I can think of. First off, “It is over a thousand pages,” Rep. Tom Price, R-Georgia, said to Bloomberg. “It is physically impossible for any member to have read this bill.”
Passing a bill without being able to even read the whole thing? Everyone can agree that the stimulus bill is a matter that should be taken very seriously. I just don’t understand how Congress can rush the process so drastically; sure the economy is bad, but it has been bad for a while. An extra week or two to read the bill is all I ask. People around campus think these things are going to be solved overnight, but it will take years for our economy to improve.
People who do not earn enough money to be eligible to pay income taxes will still get at least a $400 check. People who have earned their money are going to be taxed more. This all means giving money to people who did not earn it.
You know what that sounds like? Socialism.
