Still tasty

Power-pop quintet The Delicious is synonymous with the Bloomington music scene.

Continuously playing shows around town, it has proven itself to be one of Bloomington’s most adored bands.

Besides its prevalence in town, The Delicious has released four of its songs on Daytrotter.com and is currently on tour across the nation. Its coast-to-coast trip with more than a few stops in between is in promotion of 2007’s “The Delicious, The Delicious,” which was recently re-released by Indianapolis label Joyful Recordings.

With this latest version of its album, it produces a crisper and cleaner sound without succumbing to over-production.

The band members’ personalities are seen clearly throughout the tracks, making their presence almost palpable.

“Untitled” starts things off but doesn’t act as a presage for the rest of the album. It’s slow and quiet and is temporarily interlaced with horns. But the following song, “It’s Not Time To Die,” is abrasive, making for a strange juxtaposition.

“Social Security” is a favorite of concert-goers, but still manages to retains its rudimentary appeal on the album. Although slightly more entertaining live, the track remains fun and fast-paced.

The tracks, “Every Other Night” and “Corn Syrup” might leave some listeners ambivalent of the band’s capability to be dynamic. However, songs such as “The Opportunity” easily make up for their minute monotony.

The Delicious might have been seeking a sound that was better produced, but it was almost unnecessary.

“The Delicious, The Delicious” is an easy and pleasurable listen, but the band must not forget that its punchy live shows are what listeners fell in love with in the first place.
