IU’s spring enrollment has gone up by 3.3 percent compared to the previous year.
IU President Michael McRobbie said in an IU press release that the numbers increased because the dwindling economy has given more students an incentive to stay in school, according to a press release from IU.
“We saw that last fall when our combined enrollment exceeded 100,000 for the first time ever,” McRobbie said in a press release. “Now, with this record 4 percent increase in spring enrollment, we are seeing that the economy is also giving students more incentive to stay until they graduate.”
All around, IU saw a 4 percent increase in enrollment at all eight campuses compared to the last spring semester.
The spring enrollment numbers also show an increase in minority and international students at Bloomington’s campus, according to the press release. This spring there is a 5 percent increase in Blacks, a 6.4 percent in Hispanics and a 12.5 percent in Native Americans.
