IU students face drug charges

Two IU students were arrested Friday morning after Bloomington police found marijuana in one’s apartment.

Sebastian M. Smigielski, 21, faces preliminary charges of maintaining a common nuisance, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana and reckless possession of paraphernalia. Mitchell R. Arnold, 20, faces a preliminary charge of visiting a common nuisance.

Bloomington police officer Chris Scott was called to the 500 block of W. Hoosier Court Ave., at 12:31 a.m. Friday to check out a loud party. Scott approached apartment 544 and saw through the broken window blinds two males dividing up a green leafy substance on a scale. Officer Joe Henry went around the back of the apartment while Scott knocked on the front door, BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from the police report. Arnold answered the door and told police Smigielski lived at the apartment. Smigielski would not let police enter the apartment, so police asked both males to step outside. Scott told them what he saw through the window, and Smigielski requested a lawyer.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found about 15 grams of marijuana, including seven bags with about a gram of marijuana each, clear plastic bags, a scale and a glass smoking device.

Both were taken to the Monroe County Jail.
