Largest Hoosier troop deployment since World War II returns from Iraq

2 members of combat team died in Iraq in separate vehicle rollovers

INDIANAPOLIS – The last of about 3,300 Indiana National Guard troops are returning home following a nine-month deployment to Iraq.

The remaining 20 members of the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team were scheduled to return Monday on three flights at Indianapolis International Airport. Guard spokesman Sgt. Jeff Lowry said the soldiers had been working in Iraq and Kuwait to assist the other troops in their return.

The troops were part of the largest single deployment of Indiana Guard troops since World War II.

Two members of the 3,300-strong brigade died in Iraq in separate vehicle rollovers.
Lowry said 400 to 500 Indiana National Guard soldiers remain in Iraq, serving in military police, transportation and medical battalions.
