On behalf of the Commission for Personal Safety, we invite you to join us in educating the campus on the presence and purpose of crosswalks at IU. Identified by white stripes running across the roadway, crosswalks on the roadways going through and adjacent to the IU campus provide a unique opportunity to improve public safety.
Among other locations, the following three have some of the highest pedestrian traffic:
10th Street between the Wells Library and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs
Jordan Avenue between Read Residence Center and the Musical Arts Center
11th and Fee Lane near Foster Residence Center.
When approaching a crosswalk, drivers (both car and bike) should slow and stop to allow pedestrians to cross the street. Pedestrians should approach crosswalks carefully, looking both ways and making eye contact with the driver to determine if it is safe to cross.
In the stressful days of final exams, it may be difficult to keep pedestrian and vehicle safety in mind, but please think as you approach campus crosswalks. It makes IU a safer place for everyone.
