Indiana National Guard soldiers return Wednesday from Iraq

Julianne Egan, 5, daughter of Warrant Officer Brad Egan of Bloomington, waits for her father to march into Building 9 at Stout Field on Wednesday in Indianapolis. Brad Egan is one of the members of the Indiana National Guard 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team that returned to Indianapolis on Wednesday after serving in Iraq since March.

INDIANAPOLIS – About 50 members of the Indiana National Guard’s 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team returned Wednesday from Iraq to help prepare for the rest of the brigade to come back during the next month.

The soldiers landed at Indianapolis International Airport and then shuttled to nearby Stout Field for a reunion with their families.

Guard spokeswoman Lt. Col. Deedra Thombleson said they will then head to Camp Atterbury, the National Guard base about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.

The Guard members will help with demobilization tasks like equipment turnover and medical processing for the rest of the 3,200-member Guard unit.

The soldiers deployed in January and will return in stages until Dec. 7. The next group will return Nov. 11.
