Students and faculty waiting in line to order frappuccinos or rushing through the Indiana Memorial Union to get to class did something a little out of the ordinary this week. They helped reduce hunger in Bloomington by donating more than 5,000 cans (4,596 pounds) of food in only 24 hours.
IMU Dining Services and campus food service provider Sodexo USA ran the annual food drive at IU, which is a part of the national “Cans Across America” campaign, according to a press release.
The donated food will benefit Hoosier Hills Food Bank, which distributes food to non-profit organizations in central Indiana and is located at 2333 W. Industrial Park Drive.
Last year, about 3,600 cans were donated locally.
