Little bit of greatness

Obviously, all of Billy Currington's fans come for the music.

How does a yearlong trip to Hawaii sound?

For Billy Currington, that was what it took to quell his personal demons. The results of this absence are evident on Currington’s latest album Little Bit Of Everything.

Although his personal issues took a while – this record comes three years after its predecessor – it’s obvious from the five tracks Currington penned that he’s sorted some of them out.

The CD contains everything an acceptable country album should: lazy days, beer, girls, love and heartbreak. However, even the most avid anti-country listener could potentially find an acceptable ballad or lustful gem.

Little Bit Of Everything is a fitting title for this compilation. From soulful songs to proclamations of love and a few gritty country staples sprinkled throughout, this album lives up to its title. Among the mostly slow melodies and well-written yet unexceptional lyrics, a few tracks stand out.

The soulful closer “Heal Me” not only showcases Currington’s deep, sexy voice, but also adds a level of depth to the album. This stems not from lyrical maturity, but from the way it conveys otherwise benign ideas.

On the other hand, tracks like “Don’t” and “Everything” contain a few quote-worthy ideas for any guy trying to impress his girlfriend; for example: “The way you walk, the way you smile, the way you kiss, it drives me wild / The way you laugh, the way you sing / girl you know its everything.”

Even if country isn’t your thing, if you listen to Little Bit Of Everything with an open mind, you might be surprised. On the other hand, while Currington does literally bring a bit of everything, much of it fails to stick out amongst other country performers.
