Wearing a red “Hello Friend” IU sweatshirt, Bill Cosby brought laughs to the old and the young on Friday at the IU Auditorium.
During his two performances, Cosby spoke about students, relationships between men and women and the importance of family during Freshman Family Weekend.
“Both shows really exceeded our expectations,” said Doug Booher, director of the IU Auditorium.
Altogether, about 5,500 students, parents, faculty members and community members attended the shows.
Cosby began his performance with an introduction about the family weekend and the transition families make when their children go to college.
Freshman Amanda Roche’s favorite part was when he talked about parents dropping their children off at college. She said she liked it so much because it was relatable and true to her own life.
Cosby warned parents not to let their children tell them they want to go away to college to receive an education, because it’s really so they can go drinking. You wonder why the campus has all these bushes and trees? It’s so the students have somewhere to throw up after drinking.
He also brought laughs to the crowd when he spoke about the many roles of men and women in the household.
“My favorite part was when he was talking about his shoes,” said freshman Rob Waller, referring to the piece about how husbands are always looking for their shoes after their wives put them away. “I’ve witnessed it in my house.”
Cosby made the best out of a sickly situation when allergies prompted constant nose blowing and sneezing.
“I use three because of the size of my nose,” Cosby said, referring to the number of tissues he uses at a time.
Cosby performed his piece, “The Dentist” as well, which concluded his performance. He has been performing this classic piece for audiences for more than 30 years.
Booher said Cosby personalized the show for all audience members and the show was overwhelming.
