IU received a record total of $525.3 million in research awards and grants during the 2007-08 fiscal year, according to an IU news release.
IU President Micha el McRobbie announced the news Thursday, adding that research funding has become increasingly competitive in the last five years, according to the news release. Of the grants, $263.4 million came from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and other federal sources.
Faculty researchers on campus also submitted 4,329 proposals and received funding for 2,742 of them – both of which were also record numbers for the University, according to the news release.
The National Institutes of Health awarded almost $153 million to IU this year, which is an increase of $26 million from last year, according to the news release. The National Science Foundation gave IU an award of $28.5 million, according to the news release.
The two largest grants came from the Lilly Endowment, including a $44 million grant for a new Jacobs School of Music faculty studio building and a $25 million grant to the School of Law, according to the news release.
