It’s going down at Sigma Alpha Mu.\nRapper Yung Joc will be performing for a cause at 7 p.m. April 11 at the fraternity. The concert proceeds will benefit Camp Kesem, a summer camp run entirely by IU students. \n“He had a No.1 song in the nation, so we felt he was definitely deserving of a concert,” said sophomore Josh Krapf, vice president of Sigma Alpha Mu. “We also really wanted to get our name out there because we just started a few years ago.”\nYung Joc’s hits include “It’s Goin’ Down,” “Bottle Poppin’” and “I Know You See It.” “It’s Goin’ Down” was No. 3 on the billboard top 100 charts and No. 1 on the R&B chart in 2006.\n“We wanted to bring in a big name that’s known for putting on a good show,” said sophomore Abe Benson, president of Sigma Alpha Mu.\nThe IU Essence Dance Team, an African American hip-hop dance group, will be opening for Yung Joc. Tickets will be $20 for the concert, which will be held in the parking lot of the fraternity. VIP tickets can be purchased for $50, which allow students to use a special entrance and stand in a gated area closer to the stage.\nA percentage of the proceeds will go to Camp Kesem, a week-long summer camp in Morgantown, Ind., for kids whose parents have cancer. The camp is completely run by IU students.\n“One of our brothers is very involved in Camp Kesem,” Benson said. “It’s a great philanthropy.”\nSigma Alpha Mu expects to sell about 2,500 tickets. On Friday, brothers of Sigma Alpha Mu will be on the corner of 10th Street and Fee Ln. from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. selling tickets. Tickets will also be sold in front of Ballantine Hall and Gresham Food Services during the week.\n“We’re a fraternity that’s trying to consistently better ourselves,” freshman Nate Kaplan said. “We have a really legit chance to win Little 500. We want to win Little 500 and have a big concert. We won IU Sing and we’re serious about all that stuff.”
