Students can still sign up for RPS summer housing

With the end of the semester nearing, many students living in the residence halls are packing up to head back home.\nThe residence halls close at 10 a.m. May 3. However, if students are registered for summer classes, they can choose to live in the housing provided by Residential Programs and Services. \nSarah Nagy, assistant director of student programs and services with RPS, said student summer housing is a great option. The students who wish to stay need to fill out an application and pay $50 if they aren’t currently RPS residents, she said. Students can complete the application process online at the RPS Web site by clicking on “current students” and then going to the summer housing tab. \n“While there is no deadline for applying for summer housing, the earlier the better,” Nagy said. “They fill up fast because we only have one building to house them in.” \nAshton Residence Center will house students who wish to stay. Students must be registered for classes during the terms they are staying in for housing. The Ashton complex is entirely comprised of single rooms. The Eigenmann Eatery and Wright Quad food courts will be open during the summer. The other residence halls will be used for summer conferences and retreats, Nagy said. \nPam Sprong, assistant director of communications and marketing, said she thinks summer housing is a great option for students who want to live in Bloomington and study. \n“The campus is a lot quieter in the summer, and the overall convenience of the dorms makes it nice for students,” she said. \nWhen students live in the dorms, they don’t have to cook their own meals or worry about signing a sublet at an expensive off-campus apartment, Sprong said. \nFreshman Eigenmann resident Samantha McGlocklin said she agrees it’s nice to have a convenient location for students. \n“It’s nice they offer housing to those who are taking summer classes so they won’t have to worry about finding an apartment,” she said. \nStudents will still be monitored by resident assistants in the summer, Nagy said. \nWhen the residence halls close for the semester, students who are enrolled and registered for housing in Ashton should tell their current residence hall’s center desk so they are able to remain in their bedroom until 10 a.m. on May 4. Check-in hours for moving in to Ashton will be 8 to 11 a.m. May 4. \nStudents are also cautioned to avoid damage charges and cleaning charges by properly checking out of their current residence hall.
